Our Story
HearingExperts was founded in 2023 by a team of audiologists, hearing instrument specialists, and consumer journalists who were tired of seeing hearing aids ranked based on affiliate commissions rather than actual performance. The people we care about — adults in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, and the family members helping them — were spending thousands of dollars on devices that were hard to use, poorly fitted, and backed by customer service that disappeared after the sale.
We started HearingExperts to fix that. Every device we review is independently evaluated, scored against transparent criteria, and verified against clinical evidence and real-world wearer feedback — never paid placement.
What We Stand For
Independence
Manufacturers cannot pay for placement. Our rankings are determined by clinical evaluation and wearer experience, not marketing budgets.
Transparency
Our methodology is public. Our scoring is itemized. Our affiliate relationships are fully disclosed on every page.
Wearer Safety First
If a device raises concerns about fit, amplification accuracy, or safety for seniors, no rating, price, or popularity will prevent us from flagging it.
Our Editorial Team
HearingExperts's reviews are written and edited by a team with decades of combined experience in clinical audiology, hearing instrument dispensing, and consumer health journalism.
Dr. Margaret Ellsworth
Au.D., CCC-A — 22 years in clinical audiology and hearing aid fittings. Margaret spent two decades fitting hearing aids in private practice and a regional VA clinic. She specializes in age-related hearing loss and tinnitus management, and has personally fit more than 4,000 patients. Her reviews focus on what actually matters at the kitchen table: comfort, clarity, and follow-up support.
David Nakamura
Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS), licensed in three states with 11 years dispensing experience. David has dispensed and serviced hearing aids from every major manufacturer, giving him a hands-on read on real-world reliability and customer service. He leads our hands-on testing protocol, including streaming, battery, and wind-noise trials, and is especially focused on making technology approachable for first-time wearers.
Rebecca Torres
Coordinates our panel of 40+ real-world testers — adults aged 60 and older across a range of hearing loss profiles and lifestyles. Rebecca ensures every review reflects how devices actually perform day to day, not just on a test bench.
Paul Whitfield
Former consumer health journalist with bylines in major national outlets. Oversees editorial standards and ensures every review meets our independence, accuracy, and plain-English readability criteria for a senior audience.
How We Make Money
We're transparent about this: HearingExperts earns affiliate commissions when readers purchase products through links on our site. This is how we keep the site free and continue independent evaluation.
What this never affects: Our rankings. Our scoring criteria are determined before we evaluate any device, and we publish our methodology publicly. A manufacturer cannot pay us to rank higher, write a more favorable review, or remove a competitor from our lists.
